Mark Jackson, a research fellow at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), introduces the centre’s strong collaboration with the Queensland Government Department of Primary Industry. QAAFI comprises four research centres, with Mark working in the Centre for Horticultural Science on plant protection and emerging technologies. He highlights several sustainable crop protection projects, including RNA interference (RNAi) for stabilising RNA molecules in pest control, microbial solutions, and peptide research, focusing on cyclotides as insecticides. He also discusses the project on Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV), collaborating with the citrus industry on mild strain cross-protection for long-term pest resistance.
